This past year has been a blur. Ian in and Ian out. Deployments, a few weeks home to catch our breaths and then back out again. The boys have been busy, Piper is all over the place, and I find myself running in circles to catch up. Don't get me wrong I love my life. It sucks that Ian has been gone so much the past couple of years, but we are on the downward slide, and heading to shore duty fast! This next year he will be home A LOT more then previous years, and we are all looking forward to it.
As a mom of 4 kids, I found myself loosing myself. The days started to resemble Ground Hogs day. Same thing, every-single-day! Over- and-over! About 6 weeks ago I realized I was a hamster. Climb on the wheel, run a bit, climb off the wheel.. Only to find myself back on the same wheel going no where fast!
The boys are growing up, they can and should be more self sufficient. I sat all 4 kids down. OK, Piper had a cookie and pretended to pay attention. We dived up the household chores, made out a meals list, and a lot has changed! I found time for me once again. Writing, reading, and working out.
These past few weeks haven't been easy on any of us. I tend to be a hover type mom. Learning to back off has been good for all of us. Understanding that asking the boys to clean the kitchen then going behind then is not the answer. Asking the boys to clean the kitchen, then expecting them to actually CLEAN the kitchen works much better. Making sure we have quiet hours at night. No more crazy ville here after 7.
Little things can and do make a HUGE difference in our lives. Recognizing that I am only 1 person, caring for 4 others, and knowing my limits is AMAZING! Saying NO, and understanding that its OK if I don't bake for whatever needs baking is OK!
In all of this I have set some goals for myself. Small, achievable goals that I know I can reach! Taking a few minutes each day to just sit with myself and breath.... Looking back this past 6 weeks has really been wonderful. Here is to 6 more.. and 6 more and 6....
What goals have you set?

I like your idea of setting short 6 week goals and then evaluating. Lately, I'm in the hamster cage next to yours. I'm ready to get off the wheel and actually go somewhere.
So, now to jump off and dream about what I want to accomplish and do in the next 6 weeks.
