Ian came home the other day with these 2 bag. These 2 rather medium sized, regular plastic bags. He quickly put them in the laundry room and that is where they sat. For 2 days I stepped over them, moved them around to do the laundry and mop the floors. Friday evening he wanted to show me what was in his 2 rather medium sized, regular plastic bags. We sat down in the living room and he started pulling things out.
The contents are:
1 pair of shoes, 1 big hat, 2 small hats, pins and anchors (tiny ones), 6 shirts, 1 dress white shirt. That is IT! The entire contents of these 2 rather medium sized, regular plastic bags. He then quickly explained that there are a few pair of pants and 2 pair of coveralls in the tailors. OK, so you have everything you need.. NOPE! of course not.
Well how much did all of it cost? I asked my wonderful, loving husband?
Anyone want to take a wild guess what these 2 rather medium sized, regular plastic bags cost?
Go ahead! Take your best guess!
You have your number?
The cost of these 2 rather medium sized, regular plastic bags::: $1200.00. Yep, you are reading that right. $1200.00. ARE YOU KIDDING ME!
I didn't pay $1200.00 for my first car...... And, the best part. He still needs ribbons, and something called a choker.
And, No, he doesn't get credit for turning in all the stuff he can not longer wear. It turns out when you get promoted to Chief nothing you have previously worn, can be worn again. IT ALL CHANGES!
OH, well I can just add water to the milk, and feed the kids oatmeal. Lot's and lot's of oatmeal....

I would like to say that the material is nicer than before....not really it is the same stuff just slightly different. I agree with this post completely why does all of this crap cost so much money...marketing only two companies make these uniforms so they have a monopoly..all we have to do is figure out how to make this stuff cheaper then we are good..I have three kids for the sweatshop and a forewoman any other volunteers accepted.
Your new uniforms are MUCH better-looking than the Air Force's new ones. Ugh. I hate them. I wish they had stuck with the old-fashioned BDU's.
I saw a guy walking around in the new Navy uniform on base recently, and I did a double-take (and butt-check...). He was hot, especially in that uniform!
And, yeah, the cost of new uniforms, be they BDU's or dress, or what-have-you, is ridiculous. Ugh.
OK, I'm speaking as a guy whose main connection with the military is that I used to play baseball on a base in Greece and I pay my taxes, but the fact that he has to pay for his own uniform at all -- whatever the price -- is insane.
Sounds to me like another contractor is getting rich off of our military.
Sheesh!
I'm with Tom. We should be paying for EVERYTHING our men and women in uniform AND THEIR FAMILIES require.
EVERYTHING.
If that's where a portion of my taxes went, I would not complain.
You have to buy your own uniforms? What???? What a miscarriage of justice!
I had NO IDEA and I'm a military brat. We need a revolution, let's shout it from the rooftops . . . stage a protest . . . have mercy.
Sorry. I'm just surprised. You'd think with that big price tag, you'd at least get a garment bag instead of just a couple of generic shopping bags.
Well, he does get a clothing allowance. It does NOT cover everything.. And, we won't actually get it for a while..
Wait a freakin' minute - he HAS to buy this stuff and it's HOW MUCH?? that's just wrong. So many ways wrong. Up my taxes - we should definitely be buying this stuff for you.
Ridiculous.
